The role of sodium bicarbonate in feed grade

Using sodium bicarbonate as feed additive for poultry can effectively improve the digestibility, utilization rate and energy conversion of feed for poultry. Accelerating the absorption and utilization of nutrients and the excretion of harmful substances has a significant effect on improving the anti-stress ability of poultry and promoting growth, increasing egg production and improving eggshell quality. Product introduction is as follows:

Animal health function

A. Relieve heat stress
In summer heat, poultry lose too much CO2 from heavy panting, lowering blood alkalinity. Adding 0.1%~0.5% sodium bicarbonate to feed balances blood pH and eases heat stress.

B. Regulate acid-base balance
Sodium bicarbonate neutralizes acids from corn based feed (60% of diet). It aids digestion by neutralizing stomach acid, boosts absorption, and balances blood acidity.

 

C. Boost egg production and eggshell strength
Summer CO2 loss reduces blood carbonate, harming eggshell formation (calcium carbonate). Adding 0.2% sodium bicarbonate to laying hens' summer feed (total 0.38%) replenishes carbonate, significantly improving laying rate, eggshell quality, and feed efficiency (p<0.01).

 

D. Prevent disease and reduce drug toxicity
0.1%~0.5% sodium bicarbonate in feed improves broiler growth and survival, reducing ascites, gastrointestinal issues, etc. It enhances sulfonamide solubility in urine, lowering kidney damage and drug side effects.
